Why Community Matters: Episode #1 Introducing the Series, Why Community Matters

We’re excited to announce a radio series called, Why Community Matters. In partnership with KYMN Radio, several community members tell their stories on how they’ve contributed to and been affected by Laura Baker.

In this introductory episode of the series, Teri Knight from KYMN Radio has a conversation with Laura Baker’s Executive Director Sandi Gerdes on both the organization’s challenges and invaluable services it provides to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Challenges include limited funding, affordable and accessible housing, and reframing the public’s perception of what Laura Baker does. Engaging with the local community has been monumental in building relationships, including engaging in art programs with local artists.
